It’s International Infection Prevention Week. Generations of Infection Prevention: Past. Present. Protected
19 Oct 2026
This International Infection Prevention Week, we celebrate the innovations, achievements and people who have shaped infection prevention and control throughout history, while recognising the vital role healthcare workers continue to play in protecting patients, residents, service users, visitors and colleagues every day.
The 2026 theme, "Generations of Infection Prevention | Past. Present. Protected", honours the pioneers who laid the foundations for modern infection prevention, celebrates today's healthcare workforce, and looks ahead to safeguarding future generations from infectious diseases.
As part of our commitment to advancing infection prevention and control in Scotland, the implementation of the updated Transmission Based Precautions (TBP) guidance supports healthcare workers to make informed, risk-based decisions and strengthen everyday practice.
As we continue our Winter Preparedness Campaign 2026, we encourage healthcare workers to explore the updated TBP guidance, access the available learning resources and continue applying effective infection prevention and control measures in daily practice.
Together, we honour the past, strengthen the present and help protect future generations.
